This is one of only six oils known by Steele that date to his productive autumn of 1893 trip to southeastern Indiana. On the Muscatatuck River near Vernon, Indiana, Steele produced arguably his most well-known painting: "The Bloom of the Grape," now in the permanent collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. This subject and year are extremely scarce and desirable. Recent museum-quality conservation. SOLD.
