Mary Greene Blumenschein (1869-1958)

By the time Mary Shepard Greene married the artist Ernest Blumenschein in 1905, she had already made a name for herself as a successful artist. Mary Greene Shepard had studied at the Pratt Institute in New York, and in Paris with Raphael Collin. In 1900 and 1902 she won medals for her entries in the prestigious Paris Salon. Following her marriage to Blumenschein, and their subsequent move to Taos in 1919, Mary Blumenschein’s interests changed to architecture, jewelry making, and raising her daughter.
