Edmund Davison (1877-1944)

Edmund Davison was born in Wapello, Iowa, in 1877, and moved with his family to Wichita, Kansas, when he was a boy. Though Davison studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, he chose to follow his studies with work in his family’s bank. Davison continued on at the bank, painting in his free time, and studying briefly with fellow Kansan, Birger Sandzen, until 1933 when he closed the bank to retire. With his wife, Fay, Davison traveled frequently to New Mexico, where Edmund painted, and they actively collected the works of the Taos Founders. Davison exhibited widely during his life at the Chicago Art Institute, Corcoran Gallery, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
