Executed in the same year as the great Dempsey and Firpo, and published only in a very small edition, this example of Bellows' (OH 1882-1925NY) lithographic illustration conjoins once again his strong, sooty, silky lithographic black with the energy of a bounding, fluent drawing-hand. The genius of Bolton Brown's printing craft emerges more distinctly in Bellows' than in Brown's own work, and their two signatures are pleasing witness to the joint venture: love of man and woman seen through love of craft and art.
